Distinguished Educator Recipients

Kathy Dophied

​

     Dophied earned a bachelor of science in English and History from East Texas State University in 1964 and a master of education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She taught English at Sherman High School from 1964 to 1969, then at Central Elementary in Denison in 1971 to 1973. Moving to McDaniel, she began teaching English at Denison High until 1976, eventually becoming the head of the English Department for 18 years.

     She taught at Denison High School until her retirement in 2009. Her many awards and recognitions include Secondary Teacher of the Year, K-Lake Teacher of the Month, Team 10 Television Teacher of the Week and selected by many students as their most influential teacher at the Scholars Among Us event.

​

     During her vast teaching career, she molded many students to become great successes and was a mentor to all the DHS English Department.

​

     As a teacher she not only presented interesting subject matter, but she offered the students lessons in self-confidence and setting goals to succeed in life. Her ex-students still hold her in the highest esteem.
