Distinguished Educator Recipients
Dr. Martha W. Haun
Dr. Haun received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Texas and her doctorate in Communication Theory and Rhetorical Theory at the University of Illinois. She currently is on the faculty at the University of Houston School of Communication. She has been a university professor for 45 years and a Professional Registered Parliamentarian.

She has distinguished herself not only in her major field of expertise, but has contributed to the medical field and was awarded a $25,000 grant from the Houston Alzheimer’s Association. Having contracted Parkinson’s about 15 years, she has assisted in researching by being an experimental subject in helping to control Parkinson’s symptoms.

Haun has received 25 academic awards and has authored/co-authored four books. For five years, she was director of Graduate Studies for the Jack Valenti School of Communication Association and responsible for program content and format as the producer for “Decisions Tomorrow,” a Houston public affairs television program. She has been called the “Bionic Professor,” the “Bionic Parliamentarian” and “A Walking Miracle.”
